Black Katana, Marto
Simple and elegant katana, whose fuchi (grip ferrule), kashira (grip cap), tsuba (stickleaf), tsuka-ito (grip band) and saya (scabbard) are held in a matte black. As a contrast the golden Habaki (blade clamp) emphasizes the high-quality impression of this samurai sword. A wonderful decoration sword from the exclusive collection "Oriental weapons" by Marto.
Historically the Katana was one of the traditionally manufactured Japanese swords used by the Samurai of feudal Japan.
The first use of the word "katana" as a term for a longsword, which was different from a tachi, dates back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The katana was often paired with a similar smaller accompanying sword, such as a wakizashi, or it could also be carried with the tanto, a smaller, similarly shaped dagger. The mating of a katana with a smaller sword is called Daisho. Only samurai could wear the Daisho: it represented diesocial power and the personal honour of the samurai.
The katana is characterized by its distinctive appearance: a curved, slender, single-edged blade with a circular guard and a long handle for two hands. It has been historically associated with the samurai of feudal Japan.
