A hauberk is a long-sleeved, knee-length chain mail shirt. In Europe this mail armour was already used by Romans and Celts but continued up through the 14th century, when plate armour began to replace it. The shirt usually got slits either between the legs or at the sides and sometimes also at the neck. We supply the shirts without slits so that the customer can decide where and which slits he needs. The sleeves narrow downward by one ring every 5 cm.
The BTW chain maille type: This particular mesh is composed of butted rings made of high-quality spring steel. Considering its excellent value at a fair price,it is perfectly suitable for unexperienced re-enactors who set store on good protection and solid quality. The weave is 4 in 1. This type is called BTW (Butted Tensile Wire). Although the natural finish allows rust to develop, it also gives the weave a genuine appearance.
Our Ulfberth-Hauberks are available in three sizes (M, L and XL). All measurements are taken fully stretched.
