ohn Lee Kamakura Tachi

The Kamakura- Period was (1185-1333) a crucial era in Japanese history. It marks the first military government (Shogunate), officially established in 1192 by shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo. The name refers to the seat of government at that time in the city Kamakura, about 50 km south-west of Tokio. The Tachi mostly was worn at the battlefield in close combat fighting together with armour and combat knife. In contrary to the Katana the Tachi was worn hung from belt with cutting edge down.

The John Lee Kamakura Tachi stands out with its discreet optics. Later replicas in the contrary often were decorated richly and only had ceremonial purposes. The hand-forged blade is made from tempered carbon steel and sharpened. The hilt is wrapped traditionally with black silk underlaid with original ray skin. The typical features (Tsuba, Menuki, Fuchi und Kashira) follow historical examples. The detailed holder consists of leather inlays and a high-class, two-coloured cotton-Sageo.

The sword will be delivered in a collector’s box, with a printed cloth bag, seal and certificate.
