Viking Throwing Spearhead, approx. 41 cm

The long, narrow, sharply pointed Norse spearheads (9th/11th c. - Type K according to Petersen - mainly found in Sweden), were ideally suited for throwing. Their shape and weight, paired with the momentum gained from the force of the throw, allowed for deep piercing.

On the battlefields of the early Middle Ages, the Norsemen often carried several throwing spears that were hurled at the opponents as the distance closed, leaving the warriors free to use their swordsaxes or heavier thrusting spears in the ensuing hand-to-hand combat.

This Viking Age / early medieval throwing spearhead we offer here is crafted from tempered EN45 high carbon steel. It is approx. 41 cm (16.25 in.) long, has approx. 28 cm (11 in.) long edges, and comes with two pre-drilled holes that allow it to be secured onto the wooden staff of your choice to create your own Viking spear. The haft and additional mounting hardware are not included in the delivery.

Alternatively, collectors may purchase our wooden spearhead stand (available separately, product no. 1816375000) to display their treasures in style in their armoury.

Please note that this spearhead is primarily designed as a collectible, decoration piece or prop and by no means suited for combat re-enactment! The blade’s point is not rounded, and the edges are not sharpened, yet slightly ground (with suitable equipment and the necessary know-how and skills, they may be ground to sharpness if needed).
